Two Killed, Several More Injured in Exit Ramp Crash in South Kansas City

According to a report from The Kansas City Star, two people were killed, and several more people were seriously hurt in an exit ramp crash in South Kansas City. The incident is still under a more comprehensive investigation by local law enforcement. Our Kansas City car accident lawyer can help if you or a loved one has suffered catastrophic injuries in a car accident.

Fatal Wreck Under Investigation in Kansas City

As confirmed by reporting from The Kansas City Star, local police are investigating a fatal multi-vehicle crash that occurred near the exit ramp from northbound U.S. Highway 71 to Meyer Boulevard. According to a statement from Capt. Jake Becchina, commander of the Kansas City Police Department’s media unit, said the crash involved four vehicles and resulted in two deaths. Investigators determined that a silver Subaru Forester and a silver Ford Escape were stopped on the exit ramp. A preliminary investigation indicated that a black Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling down the exit ramp at a high speed before striking the Ford Escape and then colliding with the Subaru. The force of the crash pushed the Subaru across the eastbound lanes of Meyer Boulevard. The vehicle then went over a concrete barrier, flipped, and landed on the opposite side of the roadway. Sadly, two people were killed in the catastrophic wreck, and others were seriously injured.

An Unfortunate Note: Police officers in this case confirmed that the fatalities are the 12th and 13th traffic deaths in Kansas City in 2026. At the same point last year (early March of 2025), the city had recorded only nine traffic fatalities. That is an alarming sign, as 2025 was a bad year for traffic safety.

The Higher the Speed, the More Dangerous the Crash

Speed remains one of the most significant factors in serious motor vehicle collisions. When a vehicle travels at a high rate of speed, the driver has far less time to react to changing traffic conditions. A driver approaching stopped traffic or vehicles slowing on an exit ramp may have only seconds to recognize the danger and attempt to brake or maneuver away. Higher speeds also increase the physical forces involved in a crash. The faster a vehicle travels, the more energy is transferred during impact. That energy often produces far greater damage to the vehicles and a much higher risk of severe injury or death for occupants. If you or your loved one was involved in a speed-related crash, it is imperative that you consult with a Kansas City car accident lawyer right away.
